Contact us. A committee member will be allocated to meet with you, explain the process and how GNHW can help i.e. handbook, news letter, brochures, ringround etc.
Decide which properties are to be included in the scheme - ideally no more than 50 initially.
Decide how to get neighbours to agree to a scheme being started. Support of at least 50% must be recorded - a standard letter with a reply strip asking for support is available (Contact us). Knocking on doors is the best way to make contact to ensure a written reply is obtained and to find willing helpers.
If there is enough support to go ahead then set up a meeting to launch the scheme. A representative of the Police and GNHW committee should attend. This meeting can be in a house on the scheme or a public hall if numbers warrant.
At the meeting
Agree who is to be the coordinator and deputy.(subject to police check - see below)
Complete a form to register the scheme with the Police.
Complete a form to get permission from Highways dept. to erect street signs.
Agree how to raise funds for street signs, newsletters etc.
Compile a list of name, address and contact details etc.for the scheme.
Police checks.
Committee members who have access to the police station will be vetted by the Police using a full CRB check.
Coordinators must be approved by the police and this is done by a cursory check of criminal records.
